Some pretty amazing footage here (I think, but I've led a sheltered life).
New blog added - welcome to strange maps
I've added a new blog to my list of visitworthy blogs. You can see the link on the right, under Miscblogs. Strange Maps (strange maps, actually) is a collection of weird and whacky maps (and some very informative), showing anything from the lunatic asylum districts in Pennsylvania, USA, through The Free and Independent Republic of West Florida, to a Total Solar Eclipse Map (2001-2025), the latest entry. Have fun.

Boden des Jahres/Soil of the Year 2007
+++ Podsol – Boden des Jahres 2007
+++ Podzol – Soil of the Year 2007
A "Soil of the Year" board of trustees was founded with the aim of moving one of the often downtrodden fundamentals of our existence, the soil, further into the public view. They have now proclaimed podzol as Soil of the Year 2007. Podzols are nutrient-deficient, dry, sandy soils, often forming biotopes for rare flora and fauna types (e.g. reptiles) and as such are worthy of conservation. In addition, podzols also posses aesthetic beauty with their grey bleached topsoil, the yellow-brown subsoil and the often bizarrely shaped, dark brown iron precipitates.
